A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee in the most darling coffee shop and “cake studio”, Crumb & Kettle.  It is located in the newly updated Tyler Station in Oak Cliff. I was privileged and delighted to grab a couple of minutes with the owner and herself a newlywed, Heather Anziani, cake designer extraordinaire! I have admired her stunning cakes from afar and was so thrilled to be up close and personal to learn a few things about her.

She’s been in the business 7 years already. After graduating with a business degree from Baylor and working for about 6 months, she realized she wanted something more. She told me that she started making “really bad cakes” (her words) in college for her friends’ birthdays and events as a hobby- but really fell in love with baking. With college graduation barely behind her, and really with an interest in just making cakes (particularly wedding cakes) she decided to go ahead and take the proverbial plunge and headed to a cake focused culinary program in Toronto, Canada. After soaking every bit of information and spending hours in the kitchen, Heather returned to Dallas to open up a small business called Whisk Until Sweet.  She baked cakes out of her home while holding down multiple part time jobs.

Fast forward to 2016 where she began making custom cakes as her full time business.  Her cakes are unique, her own personal style.  She uses swiss meringue buttercream instead of American buttercream – it is such a unique product! She also doesn’t add any extracts or artificial flavors, when she bakes, she makes everything from scratch using high-quality ingredients, organic and local (whenever possible),  – she says

“A wedding cake is likely the last thing guests will eat on the big day, and I want for it to be refreshing & memorable.”

Her name has changed – both business and personal – but she remains a leader in the industry and an absolute must have at every wedding.

The artistic beauty you see on the outside is matched on the inside with thoughtful cake layers and unique flavor combinations.”(voyagedallas.com)

Heather is on our preferred vendor list for good reason – the cakes are deliscious, unique and artistic, really perfect for any of our brides here at Oak + Ivy.

Heather is delightful, passionate and an artist in a baker’s apron. If you have the chance to grab a cup of Joe at her coffee shop you might get a sneak peak at watching her artistry, at the very least, eat cake!
